Senior Environmental Corps
What is the Senior Environmental Corps?
A group of people, age 55+ who are interested in learning more about protecting their environment.
What do we do?
• After instruction by environmental experts, the Corps will take samples of Cobbs Creek area waters to determine its content. They will take steps to remediate any toxins and monitor the various sites for improvement and safety.
• Take field trips to increase knowledge and awareness of our environmental duties and responsibilities to the Cobbs Creek watershed and surrounding area.
• Have fun with other like-minded environmentally concerned citizens and educate others about the water quality in our Philadelphia area streams.
When?
The Corps' first training will take place: Thursday, May 8th, 2008 at 10AM at the Center.

AP High School Program
With its environmental science course, CCCEEC in cooperation
with Lincoln University
and the University of the Sciences, offers high school students
the opportunity to engage
in advanced study and research in envriontmental science, while preparing them to
take the environmental science AP exam for college credit. The year long
course
emphasizes scientific principles, analysis, and writing, and included a significant
laboratory/field study component. Eleven juniors and seniors from three local high
schools are currently enrolled in the 2004-2005 course.
The Environmental Scholars Program
This program teaches students in-depth science and laboratory skills using hands-on
learning methods. As students begin designing strategies for reclaiming the creek,
they will conduct stream studies that test water and soil quality and research the history
of Cobbs Creek and the surrounding watershed. Cobbs Creek is the only watershed
that is not regularly monitored by the State. Students will also participate in field
trips to the Stroud Water Research Laboratory, the Academy of Natural Sciences, and
colleges and universities.
The Park Management For Youth Program (PMFY)
The Park Management Program for Youth is a six week summer program for high
school
students. The goals are to provide environmental education and to increase community
awareness. Students conduct studies and clean up the parks, and they learn skills that further
their own personal development. The students come away with an enhanced image of
themselvesand their community.
The Teacher Training Program
This program trains teachers in environmental studies, producing enhanced learning and
field trip opportunities.
