Cobbs Creek Foundation receives major gift funding The Q School, a new 9-hole short course on Cobbs Creek Golf Course campus
Donation from Frank Quattrone and Denise Foderaro supported construction of the short course, which will be open to players of all abilities.
Oct. 27, 2025 – The Cobbs Creek Foundation today announced a generous gift from Frank Quattrone and his wife, Denise Foderaro, to support the new 9-hole short course designed by Tiger Woods’ TGR Design firm.
The course will be called The Q School and will open to the public in late fall on the Cobbs Creek Golf Course campus. Qualifying school, or Q-school, refers to the annual qualifying tournaments that professional golfers must compete in to join leading golf tours such as the PGA Tour.
“We are thrilled to be a part of the Cobbs Creek Foundation’s revitalization of this historic course, which will be an amazing resource for Philadelphia and the region,” Quattrone said. “As South Philadelphia natives who didn’t have easy access to golf growing up, we are incredibly excited and inspired by the Foundation’s mission to transform lives through golf and STEAM education, and by Cobbs Creek’s legacy of breaking down barriers to open new doors. Having witnessed the magic of TGR’s ‘The Hay’ short course at Pebble Beach, we are confident that The Q School will serve as a great introduction to the game for beginners, a means to sharpen short games for golfers of all abilities and a fun family experience for all.”
Frank Quattrone graduated from St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, earned a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business. He has advised technology companies on financing, mergers and acquisitions for more than 40 years. He led the Technology Investment Banking Groups at Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse before founding technology M&A advisory specialist Qatalyst Partners, where he is Executive Chairman. Frank is Chair Emeritus of The Tech Interactive (a family-friendly science and technology center in San Jose) and serves on the Advisory Board of the Quattrone Center for the Fair Administration of Justice at University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.
Denise Foderaro graduated from St. Maria Goretti High School and earned her B.S. in Occupational Therapy from the School of Allied Medical Professions at the University of Pennsylvania. She served as an Occupational Therapist at Thomas Jefferson Hospital and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center before becoming a Certified Hand Therapist. Denise serves on the Advisory Board of the Quattrone Center for the Fair Administration of Justice at University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School and The National Registry of Exonerations. She also served on the Board of The Innocence Project and has won numerous awards for her dedication to criminal justice system reform.
Quattrone and Foderaro are active philanthropists focused on educational scholarships, justice system reform, medical research and science/technology education. They have also supported uniquely Philadelphia initiatives such as the Museum of the American Revolution and Independence National Historical Park’s restoration of The First Bank of the United States, and had previously donated to the Cobbs Creek Foundation in 2019.
“We are humbled by and thankful for the incredible support that Frank Quattrone and Denise Foderaro have shown the Cobbs Creek Foundation and the project to revitalize this public golf course,” said Chris Maguire, chairman of the board of the Cobbs Creek Foundation. “They see the vision for the future of the Cobbs Creek Golf Course, and with their help we are one big step closer to bringing our vision to life.”
This donation was designated specifically for the development and construction of The Q School, the TGR-designed 9-Hole Short Course, opening later this year. Short courses offer a quicker round in a more casual setting, making them suitable for beginners, families, and golfers of any skill level who are looking to improve their game.
In partnership with Cobbs Creek Foundation and TGR Foundation, TGR Design designed The Q School to provide a world-class golf experience to all who visit Cobbs Creek.
“This short course is what golf at the new Cobbs Creek campus is all about: introducing new players to the sport while challenging the best in the game,” said Jeff Shanahan, president and CEO of the nonprofit Cobbs Creek Foundation. “We thank Frank Quattrone and Denise Foderaro for their generosity and support for the mission of once again making the Cobbs Creek golf course a place that welcomes all.”
