Cobbs Creek Foundation is Recipient of PECO Green Region Open Space Award
We are proud to share that we are one of this year’s recipients of PECO’s Green Region Open Space Award, and humbled to join a list of tremendous organizations doing vital environmental work in our region.
Designed to support local communities enhancing and protecting local green spaces, the grant will help fund our efforts to restore three miles of Cobbs Creek, create 25 acres of new floodplain wetlands, and build an environmental haven in the heart of West Philadelphia.
We are deeply grateful to PECO for their dedication to strengthening our local environment and creating vibrant green spaces, and for this critical support of our fundraising efforts.

PECO Supports 17 Area Municipalities and Nonprofits Through GreenRegion Open Space Program to Advance Community Environmental Projects
PHILADELPHIA (May 2026) – In partnership with Natural Lands, PECO is proud to announce the 17 municipalities and nonprofits across the Greater Philadelphia region selected to receive support through the PECO Green Region Open Space Program, which helps local communities enhance and protect vital green spaces.
Through the program, PECO supports projects that help communities care for and strengthen their local environments, from restoring native habitats, improving neighborhood parks to enhancing trail networks, and expanding tree canopy. These efforts, including tree plantings accessibility upgrades, and revitalization work at urban nature preserves reflect the diverse ways municipalities and nonprofits are creating healthier, more vibrant natural areas.
The 2026 organizations selected for support through the PECO Green Region Open Space Program include:
Bucks County: Newtown Borough, Doylestown Borough, Morrisville Borough, Upper Makefield Township
Chester County: Willistown Township, East Bradford Township, West Vincent Township
Delaware County: Springfield Township, Bethel Township, Landsdowne Borough, Nether Providence Township
Montgomery County: Jenkintown Borough, Marlborough Township, Whitemarsh Township
Philadelphia: Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership, The Garden Club of Philadelphia, Cobbs Creek Foundation
“Each of these organizations is making a meaningful contribution to the health and vitality of our region,” said Carniesha Kwashie, director, Corporate Community Impact. “Their work is expanding opportunities for residents to connect with nature and helping ensure these natural areas remain vibrant for years to come. We are proud to support the local leaders and partners driving this important work forward through the PECO Green Region Open Space Program.”
Since 2004, the Program has supported nearly 400 community-led open space improvement projects. These efforts have helped plant nearly 9,000 trees, supported more than 150 park upgrades, built or improved over 50 miles of trails, and expanded access to natural areas across the region. Each project contributes to a shared goal of enhancing community green spaces and ensuring they remain welcoming and enjoyable. Together, these efforts demonstrate how local partners are using the PECO Green Region Open Space Program to protect and preserve the natural environments that support their communities.
“These projects represent more than just tree plantings, trail improvements, and garden plantings,” said Kyle Rose, PECO Green Region Open Space program administrator for Natural Lands. “These funded initiatives help connect the region’s residents to the outdoors, which we know improves physical and mental health, relieves stress, and increases quality of life. Natural Lands is honored to help facilitate this important program.”
